Birmingham City saw several first-team players leave the club during the summer transfer window to fund the arrival of their new signings.

The Blues have been known in the past to move players on for the right money, and the summer transfer window at the start of this campaign was no different.

Birmingham saw both Tahith Chong and Jobe Bellingham leave the club in the summer, with the former being the more expensive departure and allowing the Blues to put that money back into the squad for new signings.

Chong started his career in his home country, the Netherlands, with Feyenoord before joining Manchester United in 2016.

The midfielder stayed with the Premier League side up until 2022, where in those six years he did play a handful of times and featured on loan at European sides and Birmingham.

After his loan spell with the Blues in the 2021/22 season, Chong joined the club on a permanent basis that summer.

The 24-year-old did impress in his first campaign, as he netted once and grabbed three assists. But Chong took his game to another level when he joined the Blues on a permanent basis, as he improved both in terms of goals and assists, scoring four and recording five assists.

Unfortunately for Birmingham, Chong only stayed at the club for a season after joining them permanently, as Premier League new boys Luton Town came calling and signed the winger for an undisclosed fee.

Tahith Chong’s time at Luton Town so far

Despite only joining Birmingham in the previous summer, the opportunity to join Luton Town in the Premier League was obviously something that Tahith Chong couldn’t turn down.

The ex-Man United man has been a regular for the Hatters this season as he tries to help the club beat the drop and stay in the Premier League for another campaign.

So far, Chong has appeared in 20 of Luton’s 25 league games, with eight of those 20 appearances coming as a starter.

The midfielder started the club’s opening four league games of the season, but after the defeat to Fulham, he soon lost his place in the side and has since been in and out of the starting XI.

At the time of writing, Chong has just got two goals to his name in a Luton shirt, with one coming in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool earlier in the season. The other goal came in the 2-1 win against Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup third-round replay.

This is Chong’s first real taste of Premier League football, as he was never given that chance at Old Trafford, and the midfielder will hope he can continue playing in that division beyond this season.

It is still very early in his Luton career, but Tahith Chong has done very well at the club so far, and he will be keen to improve more.

It has been a big couple of seasons for Chong, as he’s gone from hardly playing football to playing a lot at Birmingham and now Luton. So, the midfielder is getting better and better, and he will hope his experience at Man United will help him in the long run.
