Birmingham City attacker Ivana Fuso will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) injury.

The Blues announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

Fuso’s injury was reportedly sustained during a club training session. The club have not revealed the grading of the injury, however, it has been confirmed that the player will not regain fitness before the Barclays Women’s Championship season comes to a close at the end of next month. Given the fact that the injury is to the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) rather than to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), the recovery time is usually much shorter therefore Fuso is likely to return ahead of next season.

Losing Fuso’s services for the last five games of the season is a blow for Birmingham City and their head coach Darren Carter. The Blues are five points behind in the Barclays Women’s Championship’s promotion race and they cannot afford to slip up again between now and the end of the campaign.

Fuso joined Birmingham City from Manchester United last September with a club-record transfer fee being paid. The Brazilian international has scored three goals in 12 Barclays Women’s Championship appearances for the Blues. Fuso’s final appearance of the season came last month as Birmingham City went down 2-1 at home to Southampton.
