Twine joined the Clarets back in 2022 following an impressive 2021/22 season at then-League One outfit MK Dons.

Registering 20 goals and 13 assists in the league for MK that term, that was enough to persuade the Lancashire side to secure a move for the player.

Unfortunately, the 2022/23 campaign didn't exactly go to plan for the player, who spent a decent chunk of the season out injured and was unable to establish himself as a key starter under Vincent Kompany when he did return.

Scoring three goals in 14 league appearances, with more than half of these displays coming from the bench, it was unclear whether he was going to remain at Turf Moor following their promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he secured a summer loan move away from Turf Moor, heading to Hull City before making the temporary switch to Bristol City during the winter window.

Although he was unable to register the volume of goals and assists that he did at MK Dons during the 2021/22 season, he has seemingly done enough to attract interest from plenty of clubs in recent times.

Burnley stance emerges as interest in Scott Twine building

The Clarets are set to sell Twine during the upcoming window, according to The Sun, which is a boost for those who are keen to recruit him.

Bristol City are named in this report as an interested side and that's no surprise, considering they have been linked with another move for the attacking midfielder in the past.

The Black Cats are also believed to be keen on him now, even though they are currently without a manager, which could see them provide the Robins with stiff competition in this race.

And surprisingly, it looks as though Birmingham have also put their hat in the ring for the 24-year-old, having made an inquiry for him.

Considering they will be starting next season in the third tier, they could potentially be at a disadvantage in their quest to secure his signature.

A return to Bristol City may be the best outcome for Scott Twine

Twine can operate in a number of areas but if things stay as they are at the Stadium of Light, he won't be getting much game time on Wearside with the likes of Jack Clarke and Jobe Bellingham available as options.

He could potentially play on the right-hand side and there's a chance Bellingham and/or Clarke could move on this summer, but Twine will want guaranteed game time.

He isn't necessarily guaranteed game time anywhere, even at third-tier side Birmingham, but he was a regular starter for the Robins during the latter stages of his loan spell there.

The player surely won't want to drop down to the third tier again, so Ashton Gate may be the ideal destination for him.

He has thrived under Manning at MK before, so a permanent switch to Bristol may allow him to develop rapidly there and potentially move up to the top flight at some point, with or without the Robins.
