Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp has told Yorkshire Live that the team’s lack of consistency is costing them this season.

The veteran striker’s comments come in the wake of the club’s 2-1 home defeat to Millwall on Tuesday night, with the Blades going on to suffer defeat at Bramall Lane after initially levelling the scores following Jed Wallace’s 11th minute opener.

It was Sharp who levelled matters from the spot on the stroke of half time, before the Steel City side passed up a number of opportunities in the second half either side of having Morgan Gibbs-White sent off in the 54th minute.

In the end the game was settled in the second minute of stoppage time as Millwall centre back Jake Cooper drove home a stunning strike from long range to condemn Slavisa Jokanovic’s men to defeat.

Speaking after the game recently, Sharp was quick to state the following about his side:

“That’s what we have not got at the minute. We’ve not got the consistency.

“We didn’t start the season well and we are chasing it a little at the minute. There’s plenty of time left, loads of games, we know we can put a run together.”

Despite his side’s overall short comings, Sharp has been in brilliant form so far this season for the Blades, with the Sheffield born frontman having notched up an impressive five goals and four assists across all competitions.

Meanwhile Sheffield United will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat this Sunday as they travel to Oakwell to take on Barnsley.

The Verdict

Sharp quite rightly acknowledges that things aren’t going as well as many people would like at the club and it is fair to say that we haven’t seen the best from Jokanovic’s men so far.

They have a very talented squad at Bramall Lane and its probably fair to assume for that reason that they’ll soon hit form and go on a winning run.

There is also plenty of experience in the team to go with that talent, with there being promotion winners throughout in the dressing room.

The odds are still very much in their favour and surely it will only be a matter of time before they start to iron out their mistakes and errors.
