The grandson of legendary former Liverpool manager Bill Shankly has made the huge claim that he’d be happy to have his grandfather’s statue outside Anfield removed.

This comes in response to the hugely unpopular move by the Reds and five other Premier League clubs to announce they’re signing up to form a new European Super League.

Shankly’s grandson Chris has now told the Liverpool Echo that he’d be ready to have the club legend’s statue removed from outside the Merseyside giants’ stadium in what would undoubtedly be a significant moment in this saga.

“It’s not an understatement to say he would be spinning in his grave at the current situation because it couldn’t be further removed from his ethos,” Chris told the Echo.

“Given the chance I’d happily see the statue removed.

“What hurts most is that Liverpool has a history and a tradition, created by him, of doing things the right way and to be one of the six clubs pushing for this move is unacceptable.”

As our very own Leah Smith has also reported, Liverpool are facing an ‘internal crisis’ over the response to their signing up to the Super League, with suggestions that Jurgen Klopp and his players have both been vocal about it behind the scenes.
