Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has named midfielder Moises Caicedo as the player who has surprised him most this season.

The Blues made a brilliant start to the campaign and found themselves sitting in second before Christmas and very much part of the title conversation.

However, since then Enzo Maresca’s men have been on the slide and are currently on a run of three wins in their last 11 league matches.

The Blues recorded a much needed win against Southampton on Tuesday night and currently sit fifth, just two points behind third, but also only four points ahead of tenth.

The race for Champions League football is fiercely contested, and the Blues will need to find their form in the run in if they are to avoid missing out for a third consecutive season.

Whilst the current form isn’t great there have been some stand out performers, and John Terry has named his top three players for Maresca’s side this season.

Zola has also been speaking about the Blues and named a Chelsea player as the player who’s surprised him most this campaign.

“Caicedo, big surprise because last year when he came he took time to adapt,” he told DR Sports.

“He didn’t do as well as he is doing this year. This year he is doing really, really good.”

Caicedo has been one of Chelsea’s best players this season, and the Ecuadorian has shown the form which persuaded the Blues to break the British transfer record for him.

Maresca described the him as the perfect player for a coach, and he will have a key role to play between now and the end of the season.

Caicedo is currently one booking away from a two match ban, and with a game against Arsenal coming up in the next two league matches, the Blues might have to manage their midfield maestro accordingly.
