Diogo Jota on track to re-join Liverpool training after injury in December

A report by The Guardian mentions that Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is finally scheduled to re-join the club’s training sessions after more than 2 months out with an injury.

The £41million summer signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers was one of the best players for the club since he came in. The Portuguese forward bagged 9 goals for Liverpool in his 17 appearances.

He succumbed to an injury in a dead-rubber tie against FC Midtjylland in December. The Reds have been in poor form in the past few weeks, and Jota’s absence could be one of the reasons for it.

A title charge has slowly become a race for the top four as Liverpool fell out of the UEFA Champions League spots after their first home defeat to Everton at the weekend, the first in 22 years. But the club has timely good news in the form of Jota’s return from injury.

Timely return

The 23-year-old is expected to get the green light to join the first-team training from Wednesday. However, the game against Sheffield United this weekend might be too early for him. (h/t The Guardian)

However, he could be in contention for the game against Chelsea on 4th March. This news comes after Jordan Henderson became the latest Liverpool player to succumb to an injury.

The Liverpool captain had to be taken off in the 30th minute of the Merseyside derby because of a groin issue. Henderson deputized at centre-back in all league games in February despite the club signing two centre-backs on deadline day.
