Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Everton recruitment chief Marcel Brands to reject a potential approach from Manchester United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Aston Villa and England striker claimed the Toffees are at the beginning of an exciting project and questioned why Brands would leave now.
The Sun report the Dutchman is being lined up as Manchester United’s first director of football in a potential restructure at Old Trafford.
Brands’ current Everton contract runs out at the end of the season but the Athletic claim the club are relaxed about the situation.
He joined Everton in 2018 and has completely overhauled the club’s recruitment which took a step up this year.
The Toffees added Niels Nkounkou, Allan, James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ben Godfrey in the summer.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side got off to a fantastic start to the season and returned to winning ways against Fulham on Sunday.
“It’s a big project at Everton at the moment,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.
“The new manager looks like he is here to stay, they’ve got owners who have given them money to spend. So it does look like a new start at Everton.
“They’ll keep making their squad even better in coming transfer windows.
“For me, Everton would definitely be the right club for him to stay at.”
Last month Ancelotti hailed Brands’ recruitment as “fantastic” and revealed the pair share an excellent working relationship.
The 58-year-old was previously the director of football at Dutch clubs PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar and RKC Waalwijk.
In other Everton news, Football Insider can REVEAL the club have set their sights on signing three Tottenham stars.
