Luke Shaw has been Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s go-to option at left-back for the big games.
The Englishman was once again chosen to start against Liverpool at Anfield. He was a part of a rigid United backline that kept Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side at bay all night.
Shaw’s efforts saw him win the ‘Man of the Match’ award on the night. It was nothing short of the reward his performance on the night deserved.
According to MUTV (h/t Manchester United), Shaw believes two people deserve credit for his recent upturn in form. He has gone on to name manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and summer signing Alex Telles as those responsible.
“I feel really good, obviously big credit to Ole for that. For believing in me and pushing me.”
Shaw has risen well to the challenge posed by Telles’ signing. He believes both players push each other to get better, in turn bringing out better performances.
“It’s nice to have that type of competition, but we push each other to get the best from ourselves.”
Telles is a more attacking option in comparison to Shaw. The presence of these diverse traits offers Solskjaer multiple options.
Competitors but also partners in arms, the relationship between Telles and Shaw is testament to the team Solskjaer has built. The fact that they can go up against each other without animosity will hold us in good stead.
“It’s a positive way for both of us to look at it and push each other.”
Despite holding Liverpool at bay, United did precious little to attack a side that had no specialist centre-backs on the field. These are the games we should be looking to win as title contenders.
While we stay top, there is still a long way to go before the Premier League title is decided.
