The Irishman has become an integral figure for the Millers over the last 18 months but his time at the club could come to an end in the summer.

The 25-year old is currently the team’s top scorer in the Championship with five goals from his 16 appearances.

And FLW’s Rotherham fan pundit Tom Eyre feels that his time with the club could easily come to an end with this current contract.

While it would come as no surprise to see offers arrive in the January window, he is confident that Ogbene will seek to finish the campaign with the club.

However, this Rotherham supporter has resigned himself to the fact that it is unlikely that the forward re-signs for a longer deal to stay with Matt Taylor’s side.

“I think we could see a lot of offers coming in for players in January and I think Ogbene is one of them,” Eyre told .

“I don’t think he’ll go because I think he’ll want to see out his contract with us.

“I think he’ll have that nuance about him, and I think Taylor will want him to stay.

“But yeah, of course I can see bids coming in for him, big bids as well.

“Swansea wanted him, big clubs, even Premier League clubs could be sniffing around for him, it’s interesting.”

Rotherham have gone into the World Cup break 16th in the Championship table.

Four points from their last two games ended a three game losing run, which helped keep the team three points clear of the relegation zone going into the four-week pause in the season.

The Verdict

Ogbene’s performances have caught the attention of potential suitors for January.

That he has been able to step up to the second division with good performances, and will be available as a free agent in the summer means he is an obvious transfer target for many teams.

Signing him in January may still require a decent figure as Rotherham will be unlikely to want to part ways with such a crucial figure given their attempts to avoid relegation.

But if Ogbene can continue to perform at a high level into 2023 then there will no doubt be plenty of clubs lining up to sign him in the summer.
