Bielsa and Benitez linked with Spurs managerial vacancy | OneFootball

Tottenham are reportedly considering moves for Marcelo Bielsa and Rafael Benitez as the club continue their search for a new manager.

Spurs are currently assessing a wealth of managerial candidates as they bid to find a replacement for Jose Mourinho, the Portuguese sacked last month following a disappointing second half of the season.

The north London side were linked with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Erik ten Hag, though the former has since agreed a deal to leave RB Leipzig and take charge of Bayern Munich, whilst Ten Hag has committed his future to Ajax with the signing of a contract extension.

According to Football Insider, Spurs are keen to appoint a manager with experience of managing a top-level club and in the Premier League, with Bielsa and Benitez emerging as candidates for the role.

Bielsa has won plaudits since guiding Leeds back into the Premier League following a 16-year absence, the newly-promoted side having enjoyed a fine first season back in the top tier and winning admirers for their expansive style of football.

Benitez is without a club since leaving Chinese side Dalian Professional in January for personal reasons and the former Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle manager is believed to be keen on a return to England.

The Spaniard has a proven track record at the highest level after winning major silverware with both Liverpool and Chelsea, guiding the former to Champions League success in 2005.

Benitez, however, is known for a more pragmatic style of management and it is unclear whether he would prove a popular appointment given the criticism of Mourinho’s defensive-minded managerial style.

Spurs are understood to have hoped to lure Brendan Rodgers from Leicester, though the Foxes boss is not said to be interested in the position and keen to continue his work at the King Power Stadium, the club currently leading the way for a top four finish.

Scott Parker, Graham Potter and Roberto Martinez are other names linked with the position, with Spurs conducting an extensive search as they bid to avoid another managerial mistake.
