Bianconere slip to defeat against Bayern | OneFootball

Juve suffered defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich, in a match that could have no impact on the standings (with the Bianconere already eliminated from the competition). It ended 4-0 after a difficult evening.

THE MATCH REPORT

The beginning of the match saw the two teams figuring each other out, with the game played at a slow tempo in the early stages. Juventus tried to maintain their defensive organisation to contain the German attacks. In the 7th minute, Paulina Krumbiegel created a good chance, but neither Amalie Vangsgaard nor Barbara Bonansea were able capitalise on her cross.

As the game wore on, however, Bayern upped the tempo. The hosts posed a threat on several occasions, taking the lead in the 22nd minute through Jovana Damnjanovic. After a strong effort from Klara Buhl, it looked as though the crossbar had come to Juventus’ rescue, but the Serbian striker was quick to convert the rebound. Pauline Peyraud-Magnin made an excellent save in the 24th minute, while the Bianconere came close to equalising in the 42nd minute, when Krumbiegel failed to covert Bonansea's pass.

Second half: Bayern pull clear

The start of the second period saw Bayern Munich come out flying and they doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute via Pernille Harder. A defensive error by Juventus gifted Bayern the chance and Buhl, who had an excellent game, set up the second goal.

Juventus tried to fight back in the 55th minute with Hanna Bennison, whose powerful shot hit the crossbar. It was to be the only real dangerous chance for the Bianconere in the second half. Peyraud-Magnin continued to valiantly defend her goal, but Bayern’s third came in the 74th minute courtesy of Buhl to top off a great performance.

Juventus were put to the sword in the 81st minute as Alara Sehitler made it 4-0. Having just come on, the Bayern player unleashed an unstoppable strike to beat Peyraud-Magnin, putting the game to bed.

“Compared to the game against Arsenal, when we gave very little away, things were a lot more difficult here from the off. I can’t criticise the girls’ application on the night, but there’s a gap and we have to work on closing that, starting with the physical side.

"We didn’t underestimate Bayern, and these games always allow us a chance to learn from the experience. Looking ahead, the positives about playing every three games is that we can bounce back right away with a very important match. We’ll need to work to raise the ranking, so that we can increase our chances of avoiding a group as complicated as this one.

“On my time at Juventus so far, the balance is positive. The team has its identity, we had our objectives and we’re in a good place regarding those: the first was to make it to the group stage of the Women’s Champions League and we managed that, then getting handed a tough draw. In the league we’re probably a little ahead of where we thought we’d be just a few months ago.”

“We’re very disappointed with the result, of course we came here to try to win so it’s disappointing. I think we tried our best but we have to be a little better at keeping the ball and creating more chances to score goals. We want to win the last game, of course we’re not happy with how we’ve played in the Champions League. We wanted to go through but we’re not there yet so we’ll keep working hard and try to come back again next year.”

“Of course we’re very disappointed. We wanted to play better and get a better result, but there were too many mistakes and Bayern are a very strong team. We hoped maybe we could score one or two but in the end we’re disappointed. It was a very tough game and we expected that.”
