Arsenal and Chelsea’s Euro 2022 heroes were honoured by the clubs during their respective Premier League matches.

The entire Arsenal Women squad was invited to the Emirates as the men’s team defeated Fulham 2-1.

The players did a half-time lap of appreciation, led by Euro 2022 winners Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and Lotte Wubben-Moy, and Copa América winner Rafaelle Souza.

Mead, who finished Euro 2022 with the Golden Boot, was also awarded her player of the season trophy for the 2021/22 campaign.

Chelsea also welcomed its Euro 2022 heroes to Stamford Bridge, with Beth England, Millie Bright and Fran Kirby in attendance.

The trio were pictured on the pitch with their gold medals around their necks, before going up into the stands to watch Chelsea beat Leicester City 2-1.

The Lionesses are now household names after winning Euro 2022, with their 2-1 victory against Germany in the final attended by 87,192 spectators.

Mead recently discussed her life since the tournament with The Times, also revealing the motivation for her incredible performances on the pitch had stemmed from her mother’s cancer diagnosis in August 2021.

This year’s been my toughest year off a football pitch, even though I’ve played my best football,” Mead said. “I’m really close with my mum, so that hit me hard.”

“I think that’s why I appreciate everything maybe a little bit more. It put it into perspective not to dwell on things, to live freely and that I should appreciate all the moments on and off the pitch.

“And, for me, that helped my football. I was free on the pitch, and it showed in my best football.

“I wanted to make my mum proud, my family proud. As dramatic as it sounds, she didn’t even know if she’d be here at this point, so to be able to share that moment and memory [of winning] with me is priceless.”
