Beth England winner boosts Spurs Women’s survival hopes

Tottenham Hotspur edged Leicester City 1-0 at Brisbane Road on Wednesday in a Barclays Women’s Super League relegation ‘six-pointer’.

It was a winning start for interim head coach Vicky Jepson, whose side are five points clear of bottom of the table Leicester and now also ahead of Reading as well as Brighton.

The Foxes were desperately close to opening the scoring on the hour mark, Sophie Howard’s header cleared off the line before Ruby Mace hit the rebound onto crossbar.

Shortly afterwards, England went on a run, cut inside and fired into the top corner of the net.
