A headline member of the attacking ranks at Villarreal this weekend made use of the opportunity to send something of a plea to La Liga rivals Barcelona.
The player in question? Álex Baena.
Versatile winger Baena, for his part, is fresh off a remarkable display on Sunday evening.
Afforded a starting berth in Villarreal’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano, the 22-year-old laid on all three of his side’s goals, amid nothing short of a creative masterclass.
As much took Baena’s tally for the campaign to a hefty 16 assists across all competitions.
Add to this a further five goals of his own, and it is not difficult to see why a number of Spanish football’s top clubs are understood to be keeping a close eye on his development.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest comments on the part of Baena himself are anything to go by, it would appear that he has his sights set on one landing spot and one landing spot only.
Speaking in an interview with Carrusel Deportivo, as cited by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the attacker revealed that his ‘dream’ is to one day pull on the famed colours of Barcelona:
“I’d love to play for Barça! It’s one of my biggest dreams – they’re the best team in the world. The release clause is there and €60m is needed to sign me.”
