Celta Vigo head coach Claudio Giráldez moved to lavish deserved praise on Iago Aspas, on the back of his side’s meeting with Las Palmas on Saturday.

Celta, for their part, are fresh off securing a crucial return to winning ways.

After welcoming the aforementioned Las Palmas to Balaídos amid the club’s ongoing battle against relegation, they ultimately emerged on the right side of a dominant 4-1 scoreline.

And it was club icon Aspas who proved himself the undisputed star of the show.

Rolling back the years, the now-36-year-old, incredibly, played a direct hand in all four of Celta’s goals, to the tune of a brace, and two assists.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle on Saturday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the display put forth by his side’s talismanic attacker was put to boss Claudio Giráldez.

And, in his response, the Celestes’ headmaster could not have been more complimentary.

“Iago is fundamental for us, an example of involvement and what it means to work,” Giráldez began, as cited by Mundo Deportivo. “Sometimes he doesn’t have the reward in terms of numbers, but today he did and I’m very happy for him. He is the best player in Celta’s history.”
