Mateo Retegui was the best Italian player in the latest Serie A round, becoming the joint-top scorer in the league alongside Marcus Thuram.
Atalanta striker Retegui was the best Italian player in Serie A Round 7, as emerges from average player ratings from Italian sports papers.
The former Genoa striker scored a hat-trick against his ex-club on Saturday, contributing to a 5-1 victory in Bergamo. Retegui’s average Serie A Round 7 player rating was 8.5/10.
Atalanta have two more Italian players among this week’s top performers: Davide Zappacosta and Raoul Bellanova.
The other Azzurri stars shining in Serie A this past weekend were Cagliari keeper Simone Scuffet, Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, Lazio winger Mattia Zaccagni and Venezia talent Gaetano Oristanio, all rated 7/10.
Italy coach Luciano Spalletti did not call up Zaccagni for October games against Belgium and Israel, while Retegui and Bastoni are part of the squad for the upcoming Nations League matches.
