Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz is excelling at the Copa America 2024 with the Colombian national team. So much so that the 28-year-old ace is being termed the ‘best full-back’ at the competition.

The right-back has been in fine form throughout 2024 be it with Crystal Palace or Colombia. In his two appearances at the Copa America this summer, Munoz has scored a goal and helped his team to a clean sheet.

While the spotlight might be on the likes of Luis Diaz, a Barcelona target, and James Rodriguez, Munoz has excelled and is a key reason why Colombia are one of the favourites to go all the way.

Munoz dreams of Barcelona

Now, in an interview (h/t SPORT), Munoz has let it slip that his professional dream has always been to don the colours of FC Barcelona.

“To be able to play for Barcelona,” said Munoz when asked to name his lifelong dream.

The 28-year-old right-back then went on to reveal that he always idolised Barcelona legend Ronaldinho while also trying to learn the trade from another club icon in Dani Alves.

“As a child, my idol was always Ronaldinho when he played for Barcelona. In the lower divisions, I never played as a full-back, I was always a winger and I looked at players who were dynamic,” he said.

“When I started playing full-back, I looked at Dani Alves, his movements, how he went forward and defended, so in my position, he became an idol too,” he explained.

Barcelona on the lookout for a right-back

It is no secret that Barcelona are on the lookout for a new right-back now that Joao Cancelo’s loan deal has officially expired.

However, the Catalans are working to bring back the Portuguese international from Manchester City, preferably on another temporary assignment with a buy option.

At the same time, though, new manager Hansi Flick has reportedly requested the signing of Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands right-back Jeremie Frimpong as a priority.

Munoz, who has a contract at Crystal Palace until 2027, is not on the Catalans’ radar at this point.
