Liverpool made life much harder for themselves against Southampton on Saturday.
The Reds were lethargic in the first half, but that was expected after their exploits in the UEFA Super Cup final in midweek.
Adrian made a couple of quality saves in the game but the Spaniard almost undid all our hard work by gifting a goal to Danny Ings.
Roberto Firmino had scored the second goal of the game after some great work by Sadio Mane. The Senegal star got his first Premier League start of the season and scored an incredible effort just before half-time.
Southampton had created the better chances but Mane smashed in an effort from the box and stunned St Mary’s into silence.
The Senegal star was busy with the Africa Cup of Nations in the summer but he has returned to Liverpool in great form.
The 27-year-old scored a brace in the UEFA Super Cup final and was one of our best players against the Saints.
Mane could have done more damage had we been a little sharper in the final third, but this is a decent start to the campaign for the Reds.
The former Southampton star finished the previous campaign as the joint Premier League top scorer, and some fans were pleased that the Senegal star is continuing his great form.
