What are the best instances when a player has managed to score five goals in a single football match?

Kylian Mbappe surpassed his ridiculously surpassed even his high standards by scoring five goals in Paris Saint-Germain‘s 7-0 drubbing of sixth-tier side Pays de Cassel in the cup. The Frenchman joins an exclusive list of few footballers that have been able to score five in a 90-minute stint.

Some players have remarkably even surpassed five in a game, such as Luis Suarez netting six during his Ajax days and Erling Haaland scoring NINE times against Honduras in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

So, with Kylian paving the way, let’s look at some of the best 5-goal hauls in football of all time.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Granada

There aren’t many lists with unbelievable footballing feats that the great Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t find his way onto.

Ronaldo was on the tip top of his game back against Granada in 2010 when he smashed five against them in as little as 35 minutes, including an 18-minute hat-trick which is by far the quickest of his illustrious career.

Real Madrid won the game 9-1 with CR7 taking most of the plaudits.

Dimitar Berbatov vs Blackburn

On his day, there were very few classier players than Dimitar Berbatov.

A suave customer, with an eye for goal – he produced a five-star performance against Blackburn back in 2010. The Bulgarian was simply unplayable, and his third goal encapsulates everything the Bulgarian is about.

He started the move and finished it, oozing with sheer class throughout. What a player.

Alan Shearer vs Sheffield Wednesday

A day for Sheffield Wednesday fans to forget, but one for Alan Shearer to certainly remember.

The clinical Geordie did what he does best, score goals. Five at that, as Newcastle United ran riot at St James Park scoring whopping eight goals.

Lionel Messi vs Bayer Leverkusen

Similarly to Cristiano Ronaldo, there can’t be a list of ridiculous footballing accolades without the Argentinian magician turning up.

Lionel Messi remarkably obtained this ridiculous amount of goals in a Champions League fixture, as he unleashed his wrath over a helpless Bayer Leverkusen in the 2012 group stages.

This gave Leo yet another record as the first player to score five in a game in the Champions League, along with helping Barcelona to a 7-1 victory.

Oleg Salenko vs Cameroon

Now it’s one thing scoring five goals in a single outing in the Champions League – but to do it in the World Cup? Now that would take something seriously special.

That’s exactly what happened in the case of Oleg Salenko versus Cameroon in 1994. This still remains to this day the most goals scored by a single man in a World Cup knockout fixture, and we believe this record will stay for years to come.

Robert Lewandowski vs Wolfsburg

Finally, one of the most recent, and probably the most obscene 5-goal haul of all time – it’s Robert Lewandowski against VFL Wolfsburg in 2015.

An absolutely ludicrous 9 minutes is all it took for the Polish striker to score all five goals after coming on as a substitute, including a hat-trick in well under four minutes!

This is the most remarkable five goals you’ll ever see in a football match, give it a watch here.
