Turkish giants Besiktas are interested in bringing in Joey Veerman as they look to bolster their squad in the January transfer window, Voetbal International reports.

The Turkish club currently sit third in the Süper Lig, 10 points behind leaders Galatasaray with a game-in-hand, but have achieved four league wins on the bounce.

They are keen to improve their midfield with talk of loan signing Dele Alli ending his time at Vodafone Park early, and the prospect of a new challenge could attract the Dutch midfielder if he is promised first-team football at the Istanbul club, something that he is lacking at the Philips Stadion.

Veerman has been used mostly as an impact sub rather than as the first-team player we saw before the World Cup and coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy has acknowledged the midfielder is disappointed with that arrangement at the moment.

Speaking before their win against Vitesse, he said: “We have more guys on the bench, but the situation is a bit different for him than for most of them. I’m just not going to talk specifically about him right now. Joey’s reaction to his role was normal. Of course he was disappointed, but Joey puts himself in a good position and is ready when needed.”

Veerman made another substitute appearance for his current club in their defeat away to Emmen this evening as the Eredivisie side missed the chance to go top of the league.

The 24-year-old midfielder joined his current employers this time last year in a deal worth €6m from SC Heerenveen. He has not started in the last three league matches for Boeren and has not played a full 90-minute match since their 1-0 defeat to AZ Alkmaar in December.
