Besiktas manager Senol Gunes says the club has no idea where midfielder Dele Alli is after he was recently handed a short break.

The former England international has reportedly gone AWOL in Turkey and is refusing to answer calls.

Alli has struggled since joining the club on loan from Everton last summer, netting just two goals in 13 appearances.

Alli has struggled for form, leading the Turkish giants to banish him from the squad.

His last appearance for the club came on February 26, when he played 45 minutes in a 0-0 draw against Antalyaspor.

Gunes said (via Daily Mail): “Dele Alli could not come at this time. It’s raining. I guess that’s why he couldn’t come.

“We’re trying to hear from him. We could not reach you by phone. Hopefully, he didn’t have an accident.”

Besiktas have already decided that they won’t be undertaking the £8 million option to sign Alli permanently and he will return to the Toffees this summer.

Alli’s career has gone downhill since he emerged as one of the brightest talents in the English game years ago.

The 26-year-old now looks like a shadow of the player that won back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaigns.

Gunes slammed him in January, saying he did not deserve to play. The manager also criticised him for his ineffective performances in November after taking him off at half-time against Umraniyespor.

Alli has not been the same since he worked under Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur. During Jose Mourinho’s time at Spurs, he repeatedly clashed with the midfielder.

It remains unclear where Alli’s future lies as he has regressed and top clubs are unlikely to risk signing him.
