Berterame strikes as Monterrey bows out of FIFA Club World Cup

ATLANTA – The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continued as CF Monterrey fell 2-1 against Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
Serhou Guirassy struck with a finish to the near post from inside the box in the 14’ to give the Germans the lead. Karim Adeyemi provided the assist.
Jesús Corona had a good opportunity to equalize for Monterrey in the 16’, with a delivery from the left flank hitting the left post.
Guirassy doubled the lead for Borussia Dortmund in the 24’ with a shot from the center to capitalize on another assist from Adeyemi.
Corona generated another opportunity for the Liga MX side in the 41’, with a shot from a tight angle from the left side of the box that was met by a save from Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Germán Berterame cut one back for Rayados in the 48’ with a header from inside the penalty area.
Sergio Ramos nearly equalized for Monterrey in the 90’+1’, but his headed finish was just wide of the mark.
With the loss, CF Monterrey concluded its FIFA Club World Cup 2025 campaign.
