Bernardo Silva is ready to commit his immediate future to Manchester City and abandon thoughts of a transfer to Barcelona this summer.
That’s according to The Athletic, who report that Barcelona have not made a firm approach for Bernardo despite their interest, and City intend to stand firm on their €100m valuation of the playmaker.
The 28-year-old was keen to join Barça and be closer to his family in Portugal if an offer materialised, but he is now said to have softened his stance and is willing to forget about leaving City, until next summer at least.
The former Monaco man is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2025, and there is even a suggestion from club sources that he might be open to discussing a contract extension.
Bernardo is a hugely popular player at the club, loved by manager Pep Guardiola, his team-mates and the fans. His name was sung repeatedly throughout last weekend’s win over Bournemouth and he expressed his gratitude for the support on Twitter after the game.
The Portugual international has so far scored 48 goals and registered 50 assists in 253 games since joining City five years ago, winning nine major trophies along the way.
