Everton will clash heads with West Ham United at Goodison Park on Wednesday night hoping to secure a victory and book a place in the next round of the EFL Cup. The Toffees will come into this game in red-hot form after winning five matches in a row across all competitions. However, it won’t be easy for them as they will go up against a Hammers side that put four goals past Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti will once again go with the 4-3-3 formation and might be inclined to make a lot of changes to his first-team for this midweek cup game at Merseyside.

Defence

Jordan Pickford will keep his place in goal for the Toffees despite conceding five goals in his past three starts. Lucas Digne might be asked to fill in as a makeshift centre-back alongside Michael Keane as Ancelotti looks to hand Yerry Mina a rest. Keane will have to command his backline well so that Everton can restrict the Hammers from causing too many problems at the back.

Seamus Coleman could get the nod to start at right-back while Niels Nkounkou slots in on the other side as the left-back. Both Everton full-backs will be instructed to be aggressive on the field so that they can keep things tight defensively while also make some driving runs to get to the byline when on the offensive.

Midfield

Ancelotti will opt for a midfield comprised of Bernard, Fabian Delph and Gylfi Sigurdsson following their productive performance together in the 5-2 win over Fleetwood Town in the third round of the EFL Cup last week. Bernard even managed to score a goal in that game which will keep him encouraged ahead of this midweek game versus the Hammers.

Andre Gomes and Tom Davies will be available for selection on the bench as they await their chance to feature as the second-half substitutes if required.

Attack

Richarlison will once again look to wreak havoc for the opposition down the left flank while Alex Iwobi hopes to use his pace on the right to create some meaningful openings in the final third. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in a rich vein of form for the Toffees recently having banged in five goals in three Premier League matches so far. Even though the English striker didn’t score in the last round of the EFL Cup, yet we can expect him to be a potent goal-threat on Wednesday.

Moise Kean will make up the numbers on Ancelotti’s bench as he waits for his chance to shine as an impact substitute if Everton need a goal later in the game.
