Ajax continued their perfect start to the new Eredivisie season as they hit Groningen for six in their home opener with Steven Bergwijn netting three goals on his debut.

Summer addition from Tottenham, it only took Bergwijn four minutes to get his Ajax account underway at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, lashing into the top corner from close range.

Groningen would draw level but Brazilian forward Antony’s stunning strike from the edge of the penalty area restored Ajax’s lead.

Two goals on either side of half-time, a close-range header and a fine finish from within the box, completed Bergwijn’s hat-trick before the hour mark.

Kenneth Taylor would add a fifth having been slipped in by Brian Brobbey and Steven Berghuis completed the rout from the penalty spot in the dying moments of the game.
