Berbatov says Real Madrid striker Benzema deserves Ballon d'Or

Former Bulgaria captain Dimitar Berbatov says Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema deserves the Ballon d'Or.

Just last week, Real coach Zinedine Zidane declared Benzema the greatest French striker of all time.

And Berbatov told Betfair: "It's a shame, but I don't see Karim Benzema winning the Ballon d'Or because he has too many very obvious contenders in that fight.

"For example, (Robert) Lewandowski, who is also a forward and is the man of the moment. But there are others like (Kylian) Mbappé, Neymar...

"I have always spoken phenomenally about Benzema because he seems to me a magnificent player, one of the footballers of the last decade at Real Madrid.

"But he has always been in the shadow of his teammates and especially Cristiano Ronaldo, who, of course, is capable of outshining anyone who stands by his side with his great games."
