On the eve of Real Madrid's first outing in this season's Champions League, in which they face Inter Milan, Karim Benzema addressed the press gathered in the San Siro media room and had the following to say: “For me, the Champions League is the biggest competition and the one in which there's the most pressure. All of the teams are really strong and we’re no weaker than any of the other sides. We're here, we've got a good team and we're going to be fighting to win the Champions League. This is a very important competition for us”.

"The Champions League is a special competition and every team wants to win it, but it's 11 v 11 out there and there are no favourites. We have to go out there and show that we're here and want to win. We have to focus on ourselves and forget about the rest of the teams".

Current form “There's no secret formula. It's all about working hard day in, day out. I feel stronger every season because I really look after myself in terms of my fitness and mental state right from the start of the season through until the end. I'm feeling really good out on the pitch and that shows in the games. We're a really strong side and my job is to help the team with assists and goals because we have to win some silverware come the end of the season. It's a whole team effort”.

Ballon d’Or “It's something every player dreams of, but the most important thing is what I do with my team and if I can help to win trophies, I'm happy to do so. I deserve to be playing at this level”.

Vinicius Jr.’s stunning form “He's a young player who now has experience at this club. He has helped us out a great deal and has scored goals at the start of this LaLiga campaign. He really helps us with his pace and that will be the case throughout the whole season. I talk to him a lot, I have belief in him and if I can help him out, I will do because he's a top player”. “The things I achieved with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are in the past now, but they were years in which we scored lots and lots of goals. We were a trident that will forever go down in footballing folklore. Vinicius Jr. and Hazard are two great players and we'll try and score goals and provide assists to help the team win games”.

Solution to preventing team conceding goals “It's a problem the whole team has to deal with. We're on the pitch to win by scoring goals and not conceding them. It's a problem that we're looking to solve every day in training, but it's a problem that concerns all of us and not just the defenders or the attackers”.

Finger injury  “I underwent an operation, but I had to spend two months on the sidelines and I wanted to help my teammates. I hurt it again but haven't got time now to stop and have another operation. That's why I play with a bandage”.

Mbappé “I’ve spoken to him a lot. We know just what a good player he is and I'm going to focus on tomorrow's game”.
