Karim Benzema scored an 88th-minute equaliser to clip Atlético de Madrid’s wings and keep the LaLiga title race alive and kicking.

Luis Suárez had given the league leaders the lead in the 15th minute.

Scorers: Suárez 15′; Benzema 88′.

Suárez scored 11 times in 17 appearances against Real while playing for Barcelona and turned up to haunt the nightmares of Los Blancos once again.

The Uruguayan took advantage of a blistering Atleti counter attack to fire home the opening goal when he played in by Marcos Llorente before dispatching the finish with the outside of his right boot.

Real Madrid were then left reeling after they were denied a penalty just before half-time.

A corner appeared to strike Atleti defender Felipe’s arm on the way through but after consulting the pitch side monitor the referee decided not to award a spot-kick.

Jan Oblak was then called into action in the final ten minutes and had to pull off a stunning double save to deny Karim Benzema from close range as the visitors searched for an equaliser.

Benzema wasn’t to be denied two minutes from time as the Frenchman played a wonderful one-two with Casemiro to round Oblak before sliding the ball into the empty net.

Atlético remain top with a three-point lead on second placed Barcelona with a game in hand but Zinedine Zidane’s team are not out of it and remain five points behind the summit.
