For the first time in years, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are nowhere close to dominating the scoring charts.
In fact, when you combine both goals and assists in 2021/22, the two Ballon d’Or hoarders don’t even make the top 25 among players from Europe’s top five leagues.
That just feels weird, doesn’t it?
But with Messi and Ronaldo not firing on all cylinders, the rest of the world’s top attackers have taken their opportunity to steal the footballing limelight.
Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe have all scored and assisted goals for fun at their respective clubs this season.
And with football now in the grips of another international break, we feel it’s the perfect time to reveal who actually leads the way in terms of goal contributions in 2021/22.
Below, we’ve provided the top 25 players in that regard and only those plying their trade in either the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue or the Bundesliga were considered for selection.

Unsurprisingly, Lewandowski – who seems to score at least once in every single game he plays – take top spot.
It’s a tad closer than we expected at the summit, though.
Benzema and Mbappe are hot on the Bayern star’s heels, while Salah and Nkunku are in with an outside chance of surpassing him before the season is over as well.
