Manchester United experienced a busy transfer window as they sought to rebuild for the new season.
From proven Premier League stars Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to promising wing-back Diego Leon, there are plenty of new signings for fans to get excited about.
One that clearly stands out is striker Benjamin Sesko, who is filling in at a position where United were in desperate need of reinforcements.
While fans and pundits may have their views on the Slovenian goal poacher, several of his new teammates have also expressed their views on the newcomer, who no doubt has a massive weight on his shoulders, with big things being expected of him as United prepare to face Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup.
What his teammates think
“Really, really good lad, and straight away I’ve been impressed with him as a guy,” veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton told the Manchester United official website when asked about the new arrival. “But yeah, real, real imposing presence, you know, six foot four, mobile, can score goals. So, yeah, I’d say probably an awful lot of excitement about what he can bring.”
Midfielder Casemiro sang Sesko’s praises as well. declaring: “It’s clear he has quality. He is a player who is going to be very important for us. I hope that it goes really well for him, because if it goes well for him, he’s scoring goals for us! I’m sure he’s going to help us a lot with goals.”
“He’s a unit for his age,” Harry Maguire remarked, who happens to be a strong physical presence as well. “I’m sure he’s going to cause a lot of defenders’ problems. He’s still young, but he’s got all the attributes to contribute to the team and to contribute to this club for many years to come, so we’ll give him our full backing and, fingers crossed, he scores many goals for us.”
Defender Ayden Heaven has revealed just how tough it is for him to take on a force like Sesko: “Yeah, he’s very quick, if I’m being honest. Good in the air as well. Strong. So, yeah, it’s pretty much what you need as a striker, and yeah, he’s got all of it.”
“I think in England you call this ‘a handful’, like he’s a difficult striker to play against,” Matthijs de Ligt admitted. “He’s quick, he’s strong in the air, he’s always on the right spot in front of the goal, so I think he can be a really important player for us to help us score more goals, and yeah, I’m happy that he’s here.”
With so much praise going his way, Sesko has already shown great promise in the few minutes he has played for United, with more impressive showings expected to come.
Sesko’s performances in numbers
While Sesko has not yet found the back of the net at Old Trafford, he has been quite impressive in his two substitute appearances for United.
Across his two Premier League cameos, Sesko has completed 82% of his passes, which includes 100% passing in the opposition half, which shows just how composed he is able to remain while under pressure.
He also happened to win 60% of his aerial duels, making the most of his imposing 195cm frame. (Stats via Sofascore)
Should Amorim deem him ready, Sesko may just receive the opportunity to start a United match for the first time tonight, when they face Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the new arrival will integrate into the squad going forward.
