Speaking to RMC Sport, Rennes midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud reacted to the Breton side conceding a draw against Fenerbahçe in Istanbul, despite rushing to a 3-0 lead after half an hour.
The draw means the Turkish side are now top of the group going into next week’s games, having scored twice in the last ten minutes after an impressive Amine Gouiri performance – two goals and an assist – appeared to have sealed it for Bruno Génésio’s men.
“It’s not a case of overconfidence. We started the match perfectly, winning 3-0 away from home. We had a weaker spell at the end of the first half, we tried to do as much as possible. But I think that with the end of the match we need to try and do better. Not winning today is a professional error. We are idiots, because when you’re winning 3-0 away from home, you have to close up shop. Honestly, we shouldn’t [have drawn].”
“I don’t know what happened, we’re going to have a chat. […] We were putting in the perfect performance and then… We would take too many touches, we would dribble even though at the end of a game you should take zero risks and clear the ball. We showed today that we still have to learn.”
