HLN are reporting that Benfica representatives, led by Rui Pedro Braz, are currently in Brussels. They are there to negotiate with defending champions Union St Gilloise for the signing of Croatian striker Franjo Ivanovic. The striker has been attracting plenty of interest in recent months, but it appears Benfica are the side that have gotten the furthest in negotiations. Union are hoping that Benfica will pay €20m for Ivanovic.
The 21-year-old striker only joined Union last season from Croatian club Rijeka. Ivanovic had been part of the Augsburg set up but never broke into the first team, moving to Rijeka in 2023. After 16 goals in 51 games he was picked up by Union and was an instant success. Ivanovic possesses great technical ability and an eye for a goal, with 21 scored in 47 games. 16 of these came in 34 league games as he was a major factor in the side winning their first title since the 1930s. The striker is already off the mark this season, having scored in the Super Cup defeat to Club Brugge last Sunday. It is likely that the striker would be interested in joining a club with the size and stature of Benfica.
