Chelsea’s hectic week is into full flow again, with Blues players currently taking medicals and signing contracts for loans and transfers all over the continent.

Perhaps the biggest potential story of them all is likely to come down to the deadline, however. Nicolas Jackson continues to be linked with a move to both Manchester United and Newcastle, although no concrete progress is being made.

Well connected Chelsea insider Ben Jacobs went on the London is Blue podcast to explain a little about where he sees the transfer standing right now:

“Jackson is more likely to leave [than some other options]. When we interviewed Joao Pedro, we were told very clearly by the player that he sees himself as a number 9. I think the feeling within Chelsea is that 1) Nicolas Jackson wants to start week in, week out, and 2) Chelsea are prepared to entertain a sale.

“When Manchester United first enquired about Nicolas Jackson, they were told £80m. I sense that number will drop in the last four weeks of the window. And if it does – Newcastle have just bid nearly £90m for Benjamin Sesko. Manchester United have bid £85m for Benjamin Sesko. I think Chelsea are just waiting for that because they know these clubs, particularly Man United or Newcastle, will have a big chunk of money.”

Chelsea ready to exploit strong position over Jackson

Chelsea are basically in a very strong position here. They can keep Jackson if they want, and he will certainly come in handy. Equally, if they get a crazy big offer they can grab the opportunity to cash in.

It makes sense to see how things play out with Sesko – not only is price benchmark going to be set high, it also means that one of Newcastle and Man U are going to be left empty handed and desperate.
