Former Manchester United goalkeeper turned podcaster, Ben Foster, has poured scorn on Casemiro’s role or lack of, in Bournemouth’s second goal last weekend.

United were once again cut open with ease as the Cherries dominated proceedings at the Vitality Stadium, especially in the first half.

Both goals were the result of poor defending as Willy Kambwala slipped at the worst possible time and his defensive partner, Harry Maguire, was nowhere to be seen to help cover the youngster’s error.

The second goal, scored by Justin Kluivert, was another classic example of how not to defend, as the winger was given all the space he could dream of to smash the ball into Andre Onana’s net.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was the first to highlight Casemiro’s role in the goal claiming, “right now he looks like he’s in Soccer Aid. He looks like he’s playing at such a pace where the game is a bit of fun and there’s celebrities coming on the pitch”.

Ben Foster has also spoken out on the poor play by the experienced Brazilian, especially during Kluivert’s strike.

Speaking on The Fozcast podcast he claimed, “the second goal, Casemiro he’s a holding midfielder. He should be that engine, that rat in the midfield, the disruptor – somebody that breaks up all the attacks, gets in people’s faces”.

“The second goal, for me, is an absolute disgrace. It’s an absolute disgrace. He’s allowed to wander into that space and get his shot off”.

“Casemiro almost notices at the last second, meanders in, hangs a leg in there and I’m thinking, do you know what? If I was a manager of a team and my holding midfielder did that, that action there and then, I’d say that’ll do. You, come off”.

“And I’d make a point of showing this in the week as well. Next week, we’d have a meeting on Monday and I’d show this to everyone and say ‘You see that, that’s an absolute disgrace’”.

“The reason why he was brought off was because you break a neck, you bust a gut, you get in front of that player, you shut it down and you block it. What you’ve done there is you’ve just allowed him to walk in, get his shot off and score a goal. Simple as that”.

Casemiro’s lack of mobility and sheer inability to adapt to Ten Hag’s chaos ball has been one of the most obvious and saddest aspects of United’s decline this season.

The multiple Champions League winner was immense in his first season, where he was a defensive rock in most games and scored crucial goals, including the opening strike in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle that the Red Devils would go on to win.

However, he looks like he is certainly on his way out of the club in the summer, with INEOS said to be keen to rid the team of his huge wages and clear space for younger, hungrier talent.

As a result the Red Devils have been linked to younger replacements such as Youssouf Fofana, Ederson and Andre.
