Ben Foster thinks Aaron Ramsdale is world-class, as the Arsenal summer signing has a bit of everything to his game as a goalkeeper.

Speaking to 90min, Ben Foster explained that there’s a difference between goalkeepers with potential and those that can actually deliver on a weekly basis at the top level.

The Watford goalkeeper believes Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale falls into the latter category.

“At the minute, I think the one that’s out there doing it, proving it, and showing it is Aaron Ramsdale,” Foster said.

“He is showing everyone that he is world-class. He’s got everything to his game, he can make saves, he’s dominant, he plays out from the back and he’s doing it week in, week out.

“You’ll very rarely see a mistake from him, he’s always the same temperament and he looks like he’s a leader as well.”

Foster puts Ramsdale up with Liverpool’s Alisson and Manchester City’s Ederson in terms of the “ideal modern goalkeeper”, making saves and playing out from the back with equal confidence.

The question now is whether Ramsdale can keep that form up for the rest of the season, and whether he can do enough to displace Jordan Pickford as England’s first-choice goalkeeper before this year’s World Cup.

Most fans would probably agree that Ramsdale is performing the better of the two goalkeepers right now.

Ramsdale is admittedly playing for the better team, but his 12 Arsenal clean sheets to Pickford’s three for Everton this season doesn’t even put them close.

The problem is that we only have the rest of the year for Ramsdale to prove he’s sufficiently far ahead of Pickford to account for the fact he’s obviously significantly less experienced in major tournament football.

It won’t be easy, but it doesn’t seem impossible if Ramsdale is as good as Foster believes he is.
