Boca Juniors started brightly on the road but conceded late to drop points in the Superliga.

Manager Gustavo Alfaro’s side were leading most of the match at El Gigante de Alberdi Stadium but could not hold their nerve.

Xeneizes gave up a goal from a set piece in the final ten minutes and dropped two points in the process.

The Buenos Aires giants started well, though, and scored the game’s first goal.

29-year-old centre back Lisandro López redirected a corner kick from Mauro Zárate to open the scoring in the 16th minute.

Late in the match, substitute forward Anthony Uribe had a poor touch trying to control a throw-in which allowed López a chance to clear.

Unfortunately for the visitors, the clearance sliced right to Federico Lértora and the midfielder struck the ball into the bottom corner of the net from top of the area.

Belgrano’s 28-year-old midfielder leveled the match in the 81st minute.

Juan Gabriel Patiño earned bookings in the 63rd minute and the fourth minute of stoppage time so that Belgrano ended the match with 10 players.

Into the sixth minute of added time, Boca had a strong shout for a penalty after defender Tomas Guidara appeared to handle the ball when Ramón Ábila was preparing to head in a potential match-winner but the referee looked the other way.

The result moves Boca Juniors up to 32 points and keeps them in third place in the Superliga table.

By virtue of their late equaliser, El Pirata earned a point but remain down in 25th place. While Belgrano still only have 15 points, they are close to peeling away from the bottom of the league table.
