With qualification for Euro 2024 secured, Belgium can go into their clash with Sweden under little pressure. However, Domenico Tedesco is still relatively new to the job, so any chance to build greater cohesion should not be taken lightly. Their opponents need to win all of their matches if they are to have a chance to overtake Austria in second place, while also hoping that the latter lose their remaining two games.
However, for Sweden to do so they will need to go against recent history. The sides have played each other just three times since 2014, and in each game the Belgians have come out on top. Furthermore, the Red Devils have not even conceded a goal to the Scandinavians.
During the reverse fixture in March, Belgium won 3-0 at the Friends Arena in the Solna suburb of Stockholm. Romelu Lukaku was the hero as he grabbed a hat-trick to increase his lead at the top of the countries scoring charts. The striker scored again against Austria in the recent 3-2 win, giving him 78 goals in 111 games for his country.
Belgium’s finally game of qualification will be at home to Azerbaijan on the 19th of November.
