Belgium’s Euro 2024 qualifier with Sweden was abandoned after two people were shot dead in Brussels.

The decision to postpone Monday’s Group F encounter at the King Baudouin Stadium was made during half-time with the score level at 1-1.

As per the BBC, Belgian police confirmed the deaths of two individuals, with Prime Minister Alexander de Croo confirming the victims were Swedish.

According to initial reports, supporters were informed that the game had been suspended and they would need to remain in the stadium until cleared to leave.

“For security reasons, the Belgian police want Swedish supporters to stay in the arena. Take part in information from officials, responsible authorities and [Sweden] staff on site,” read a statement from the Swedish FA.

Prosecutors are reportedly treating the shooting as terrorism. UEFA later confirmed the complete abandonment of the match.

Fan evacuation began roughly two hours after the decision the pause the match.
