Sint-Truiden forward Aboubakary Koita has been given a maiden call up to the Mauritania squad for the upcoming international week. the 25-year-old is the joint top scorer with Kevin Denkey in the Belgian Pro League, having scored an impressive 10 goals in 14 games. Remarkably, in 29 appearances for Sint-Truiden last season, Koita failed to score a single goal.

Mauritania are set to compete in the third Africa Cup of Nations tournament in a row, having made their tournament debut back in 2019. Sint-Truiden may well have to find a replacement for Koita’s goals in January given that he will likely be in Cote d’Ivoire with the side. He will join up with another Belgian based player in Deinze’s Souleymane Anne.
