Beerschot were a surprise package in the Challenger Pro League last season as they returned to the top flight of Belgium after a two year absence. The side, who share owners with Sheffield United, will hope to be able to do better than their sister club were able to do in the Premier League last season.

Last seasons position: Promoted

Transfers in: Brian Plat (FC Volendam), Ewan Henderson (Hibernian), D’Margio Wright-Phillips (Stoke City), Dean Huiberts (PEC Zwolle)

Transfers out: Ibrahim Alhassan (Boavista), Bill Lathouwers (RWDM), Robbe Quirynen (Dessel Sport), Benjamin Pauwels (SC Cambuur), Robin Simovic (free), Mike van Beijnen (free), Andi Koshi (free), Jerrel Hak (free)

Overview:

Beerschot managed to bring back two players who were key in helping them win promotion last season, with D’Margio Wright-Phillips having really impressed in the final few months. Brian Plat brings Eredivisie experience, while Ewan Henderson was a bright spark in what proved to be a terrible season on and off the pitch for Oostende. They managed to also shift players who were unlikely to contribute, freeing up space to bring in a few more players.

The main question hanging over the side now is whether or not Dirk Kuyt has what it takes to keep them in the Pro League. He took over with the side already in position to get promoted and was able to finish the job. Yet now he has had a full pre-season with the side and been able to bring his ideas to the table, will these translate into success in the top flight? Time will tell, but if players like Thibaud Verlinden can take to the Pro League they should have a good chance. Captain Ryan Sanusi has experience of this division and has proven to be of the level in the past.
