The Zebras recovered from a terrible start to the 2022/2023 season to almost make the play-offs. They brought back Felice Mazzu after his struggles at Anderlecht, with the former head coach helping steady the ship. Fan frustration with the lack of quality investment from the powers that be was evident last season, so a good start is needed to ensure the fans get on board during 2023/2024.

Head coach: Felice Mazzu (returning)

Players in: Oday Dabbagh (Arouca), Antoine Bernier (RFC Seraing), Zan Rogelj (WSG Tirol), Youssouph Badji (Club Brugge)

Players out: Ali Gholizadeh (Lech Poznan), Joris Kayembe (Genk), Didier Desprez (F91 Dudelange), Nauris Petkevicius (Hegelmann)

Player to watch: Ken Nkuba

Despite being just 21-years-old, it feels like Ken Nkuba has been around for a long time. Last season was his best in terms of matches and attacking output, with four goals and five assists in 28 matches. Much has been predicted of the young winger since he made his professional debut for Charleroi, and last campaign felt like the real start of him realising his potential. Many will be looking to see if he can go up to another level during the 2023/2024 season.

Transfer Needs:

Adem Zorgane is unlikely to still be at the club by the end of the window. Therefore, another central midfielder who can do some of what the Algerian was capable of would be a welcome addition for Mazzu. Another left-sided player to replace Joris Kayembe would also be a good option.

Prediction:

After their late season form under Mazzu, Charleroi should be in the top half of the table this time around. They have a reasonably decent squad, although they will have to hope that Oday Dabbagh will be able to supply the goals. Mazzu was successful in his first spell in charge and looks like he has the tools to repeat the feat this time around.
