Last week was an important one in terms of Chelsea getting their outgoings for the summer, and this week promises to be more of the same.
While Noni Madueke’s Arsenal switch was the only one actually confirmed last week, a lot of other moves got closer to completion. One of those appears to be Kendry Paez’s loan to Strasbourg.
Kendry Paez update from Ben Jacobs.
After training with our sister club in the spring after the season in Ecuador, where he had been playing before, ended, Paez went to the Club World Cup as part of Chelsea’s travelling party, but not as part of the squad.
So he got plenty of time training with Enzo Maresca and the main group, but didn’t get on the pitch. The loan move to Strasbourg for the season, which has long been suggested, comes next.
Ben Jacobs has just Tweeted that the move is “in the process of being finalised” and that the attacker is “set for a Strasbourg loan.”
It’s another one of our 6 foreign loan slots used up, and should mean all our Strasbourg slots are taken, with Paez joining Mamadou Sarr and Mike Penders there.
Paez is in the slightly funny position now. His star has faded a little, and Estevao Willian has jumped ahead of him in the South American youngster stakes at Chelsea.
The Ecuador international clearly is still full of talent, he’s just going to have to show it first hand. This could yet prove an advantage – he could end up playing every week in Ligue 1 and looking great while Estevao is sitting on our bench.
We hope this move is the making of young Kendry, who hopefully just needs a chance.
