Becky Langley is delighted with how her side have come through a turbulent 12 months that has seen the fortunes of Newcastle United flipped on its head.

At the beginning of 2022, Langley was working as a part-time manager, leading her side out in front of a handful of fans and being kept afloat by the Newcastle United Foundation.

Fast forward almost 12 months and they’ve played at St James’ Park twice, smashed countless records, can call Kingston Park their home and are part of the Newcastle United family with Becky Langley full-time.

Newcastle are now consistently boasting league-high attendances for home games and are set to play at least one more picture at St James’ Park this season which will still be ‘pinch me’ moments for Langley.

The sky is the limit for Newcastle

The Lasses will be hoping that game can be the time they finally lift the FA Women’s National League North trophy after missing out by three points last time out.

Langley certainly has her side fired up heading into 2023 as they held no remorse for Merseyrail in their last outing by smashing nine goals past them to beef up their goal difference which could be crucial come the end of the campaign.

The Newcastle boss was very quick to highlight all of their recent success hasn’t come overnight or with ease as she, and the rest of the team have had numerous difficult moments that have shaped them.

Becky Langley ready to kick on in 2023

She said: ‘I think we’ve done well, we’re second in the league and would’ve liked to be top at Christmas but we’ll keep persevering in the new year and we’ve had a lot of injuries to tackle.’

Much like any manager in football, langley has acknowledged there are pressure on her and the team, especially after Amanda Staveley spoke up about their dreams of playing in the Champions League as she added:

‘We’ve had a big change going from the foundation going into the football club so there’s a lot of [new] pressures that have come with that but I think now we’ve got out confidence we’ll just kick on in the new year.’

The sky is certainly the limit for Langley and her young squad who are right on the tails of Durham Cestria despite a ridiculously long injury list.

If Newcastle can stay fit and get clicking as they have been in more recent league outings then the only way is up hearing into 2023.
