Beale To Rest A Couple? | Predicted 4-2-3-1 Rangers Lineup To Face Motherwell

Michael Beale was heavily criticised following his side’s shambolic Old Firm defeat against Celtic. But Rangers showed incredible grit and determination en route to clinching a 1-0 Europa League victory versus Real Betis. The result on Thursday night should uplift their spirit ahead of hosting Motherwell in the Premiership.

Although the Well are leading Rangers by a point in the early league standings, the Glasgow giants’ domination over the years makes them firm favourites to clinch all three points on Sunday afternoon. Beale has ample depth as well as quality across the pitch and it remains to be seen whether he rotates his options for this weekend outing.

Defence

Despite promoting Robby McCrorie towards the closure of the previous campaign, Jack Butland has been handed the ‘number 1’ status across competitions. The Englishman will keep his place between the sticks unless any unforeseen turn of events before the clash.

Like Butland, skipper James Tavernier is irreplaceable, and probably the first name in the teamsheet, for his influence, impact and mastery down the right-hand flank.

Ridvan Yilmaz has been left out of their European squad. However, the Turkish left fullback is expected to feature ahead of Borna Barisic similar to last weekend’s St Johnstone fixture. Connor Goldson and Ben Davies have restored stability in deep defence with back-to-back clean sheets and the English boss, therefore, should rely on his fellow countryman against Stuart Kettlewell’s side. John Souttar, Leon King and Leon Balogun must wait for their opportunities as the understudy to Goldson and Davies.

Midfield

Jose Cifuentes and John Lundstram worked extremely hard to dominate the midfield battle against the Spanish side. Cifuentes could be rested in favour of Ryan Jack who would form a ‘double pivot’ alongside Lundstram. Kieran Dowell and Nicolas Raskin are ruled out for weeks with their respective knee and calf injuries.

An injury to Todd Cantwell should see Tom Lawrence featuring as a midfield attacker. The ‘number 10’ role not only suits his style of play but also allows Abdallah Sima and Rabbi Matondo to explore the width. The wide attacking duo are in blistering form and their presence down the flanks would cause menace in the Well backline.

Attack

Danilo is sidelined with a broken cheekbone, whereas the lack of productivity high up the pitch has cost Cyriel Dessers his starting status in recent games. Meanwhile, Kemar Roofe deserves a run of games, particularly after the ill-fated fitness setbacks since joining the club.
