Manchester United defender Harry Maguire confirmed he’s staying at the club this summer, while Fabrizio Romano envisions a future for the player at Carrington beyond the current campaign.
The Sheffield native joined the Premier League giants from Leicester City in the summer of 2019 for a whopping £80 million. However, he hasn’t always lived up to the expectations, and was at times depicted as the poster boy of Man Utd’s banter era.
Nevertheless, the 32-year-old found a new lease on life last season following the appointment of Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese manager was thrilled with Maguire’s displays at the back, and was the one who convinced him to trigger an automatic renewal clause last season.

In recent weeks, Maguire has been linked with various clubs in England, Italy and the Arab world. However, in a new interview with Andy Mitten, the England international confirmed the club’s plans to maintain his services for the season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Man United may even have long-term plans for the centre-back, suggesting that the two parties could end up signing a new contract.
The Italian journalist revealed as much in his latest appearance on his official YouTube channel, as he told the fans to keep a close eye on the situation.
While the transfer market insider doesn’t expect immediate developments on this front, he believes that Man Utd and Maguire’s entourage could open talks in the next few months.
The experienced defender started on the bench against Arsenal on the opening day of the season, as Amorim opted for a back-three of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw, but he then replaced the latter in the second half.
So while it remains to be seen if Maguire will be a regular starter or not, he will surely have an important role to play either way.
