Intriguing to read through these BBC Sport comments, following on from Newcastle’s victory over Nottingham Forest.

The comments from neutrals especially telling…

A little different to what Newcastle United fans have come to expect from the BBC Sport ‘neutrals’!

The BBC Sport comments from neutrals are usually just overwhelmingly a catalogue of abuse aimed at NUFC supporters.

Quite amazing how repeatedly so many fans of so many other clubs are interested in Newcastle United AND are bothered enough to go to the effort of leaving such lovely endearing messages. Particularly the stuff about the new Newcastle United owners and the media inspired pile-ons that NUFC fans have become used to, when blamed for who now owns their club.

On this occasion though, politics completely absent amongst the comments, just amazingly…about the football and how good Newcastle United were against Nottingham Forest.

The BBC Sport readers comments, mainly from neutrals, although some Nottingham Forest fans and the odd Newcastle fan also contributing…

‘Come on the Toon! As a neutral in the Premier League I really want them to do well.

Couldn’t less about Saudi owners. All the big clubs are owned by tossers. No one gets that rich without some shady dealings.’

‘(Liverpool fan) If Newcastle sign a quality striker this month then i can see them making top eight.’

‘Lingard on about £50,000 per touch.’

‘After all the hype, Forest are rubbish!!’

‘Eddie Howe continues to do a sterling job, great to see a talented English manager be take his opportunity at a soon-to-be top club.

Must be nice for him to be able to get on with it, while the media obsesses over the likes of Lampard and Gerrard.’

‘(Leeds fan) Rooting for the Geordies after they helped us stay up by beating Burnley.

Great manager, got em attacking, bringing the good times back for Newcastle!’

‘Howe has really done a great job for Newcastle.’

‘Newcastle played well, good quality and plenty of hard work. Well deserved win.

Forest need to up their game a little, they look a decent side but the Premier league is a big step up, you can’t get away with sloppy passes as today showed.’

‘Can’t help feeling chuffed for genuine Newcastle fans.

They suffered for years under previous ownership. Good to see Eddie Howe sign a long-term contract too. There were whispers last year of bringing in a ‘big name’ manager. He seema a great fit for the club.

Wish them well this season, except when playing me team!’

‘Incredible how players who once looked championship fodder now have the air of a decent prem team. Bruce being terrible or Howe brilliant? Probably a bit of both, either way great start to the season.’

‘Well played Newcastle, without doubt the better team won today. It’s a big learning curve for us though, we have come a long way in a short period of time. We keep perspective, we will improve as we get used to the prem and our players get to know each other better. Early days, keep the faith in Cooperman.’

‘(Liverpool fan) I’m glad for Newcastle.’

‘Screaming at the telly for someone to pull the trigger. Thank you Fabian Schar.

Won’t get many easier games than that this season and very poor in and around the box. Howe’s challenge this season, turn possession and dominance into goals.

Nice problem to have I guess.

Still, take nowt away from the lads. Comfortable win & clean sheet, can’t ask for more than that.’

‘Only 7 playing their first game for Forest and most of the rest making their PL debut, I thought Cooper was a genius, should have done a lot better against one of the PL’s strugglers, joking apart expect at least 10-games to see the real Forest. As for Newcastle they could easily be top 6 or better come the run-in.’

‘Newcastle look stronger this season.’

‘Early days for Forest, could well be three teams worse than them. As for Newcastle, Eddie Howe, you are putting together a very good side, with couple of attacking additions before the window closes you will be not only top 10 but possibly the nearest to the top six.’
