Interesting to read through these BBC Sport comments, following on from Newcastle United winning away at Leicester City.

The comments from neutrals especially telling…

A lot of it different to what Newcastle United fans had come to expect from the BBC Sport ‘neutrals’.

The BBC Sport comments from neutrals in the past had been overwhelmingly a catalogue of abuse aimed at NUFC supporters.

Particularly stuff about the Newcastle United owners and the media-inspired pile-ons that NUFC fans have become used to, when blamed for who now owns their club.

On this occasion the politics (almost!) entirely absent, concentrating instead on matters on the pitch.

The BBC Sport readers comments from neutrals, Leicester fans and the odd Newcastle supporter also contributing:

‘Lousy performance from the foxes.

Its not rocket science – passing the ball to your opponents in the final third twelve or thirteen times a game usually spells disaster. RVN not the answer, its a full rebuild on the cards from now.

Well done Newcastle, genuinely hope you get CL football. Harvey Barnes = Class act.’

‘Win puts Newcastle in the driving seat for the race for the final 2 CL places. Going to be an exciting battle to see which 2 teams end up grabbing the 4th and 5th places and which are left disappointed.

Would be great if the Magpies and Villa managed to grab those places, assuming Fulham and Brighton are now too far back to make it and Chelsea and Man City are left out in the cold.’

‘With you there guv. Much happier seeing Newcastle and Villa in Europe and Man City and Chelsea licking their wounds.’

‘Always a shame to see teams struggling. Players booed. Not nice. We can’t say much. Not long ago Mike Ashley owned our club, we were very poor. It can change in a season. Keep your colours and chins up.’

‘Your fans should be booing now more than ever with the current owners. If they have a conscience.’

‘”Your fans should be booing now more than ever with the current owners. If they have a conscience.”

And how long have YOU been using oil?’

‘Well yeah just need some Oil Money and voila…easy innit?’

‘Much as we might dislike psr it means the club only spends what it earns regardless of our owner – they’re just running the club properly, with revenue nearly doubling in first 2 years. Ashley had neglected the business and barely increased revenue for 5 years.’

‘Just like Leicester will turn down their share of bein sports millions for premier league middle east coverage.’

‘I gather you don’t understand Psr. Football is maybe not for you. Im guessing you find these rules complicated.’

‘Let’s just take a minute to appreciate that Schar crossbar challenge uff.’

‘Newcastle did the business within the 1st half hour and then just had a on field practice with the Foxes for the next hour. No wonder the stands started emptying from that point on, most back home in time to watch the 9 o’clock news.’

‘Embarrassing for the foxes, fans leaving after half an hour. The void between the teams is huge. Nice relaxing evening for the Geordies.’

‘Leeds supporter here. You’ve got some potentially easier and potentially difficult games in the run in. I hope that the Arsenal players are already on the beach when you play them. It would be nice to see you getting that top 4 slot rather than just the usual suspects. Hopefully we’ll play you next season but that’s in the balance at the moment.’

‘Can’t help but love Newcastle and Howe, not sticking to the god awful styles of today and actually trying something different. He is an elite manager because unlike Pep who actively ruins players, Eddie gets players like Murphy/Joelinton and others and turns them into top players by coaching them properly. Great season!’
