The former Charlton Athletic midfielder had originally planned on moving to Hungary, but changed his mind at the last minute.
Former Crystal Palace and Reading winger Jobi McAnuff has dubbed the signing of George Dobson as one of the signings of the summer after his move from Charlton Athletic to Wrexham AFC on a free transfer.
Speaking on BBC Five Live's Football Daily: 72+ EFL League One Preview, the player-turned-pundit, explained how he believes the capture of the former Charlton captain will disappoint the Addicks, and how Dobson benefit Wrexham.
The Red Dragons have won back-to-back promotions to reach League One, with their superstar owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, pumping money into the club that had been out of the EFL for 15 years.
Ahead of the new League One season, Wrexham have added six new players, including Arthur Okonkwo, Dan Scarr and Lewis Brunt, as they aim to fight towards the top of what looks to be a highly contested division.
Phil Parkinson's team welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the STōK Cae Ras for the opening fixture of the new campaign, with Dobson looking to start for his new club at the first opportunity.
Dobson, who spent three seasons with the Addicks, made the move to Wales early in July, after originally signing for Hungarian club, Fehérvár, however, the 26-year-old pulled out of the move due to personal reasons.
Wrexham's new number 15 will be hoping to kick-start his career with his new team in the best possible way, with McAnuff claiming that his former club will miss him: "I think that it is one of the signings of the season for me.
"I think there will be a lot of Charlton fans who will be very disappointed to see it, and if he did move on it'd be to a club who are a step-up, so to see him move to a club that are newly promoted will be disappointing for Charlton fans, but it just goes to show what a signing it is for Wrexham."
Dobson made 144 appearances for Charlton in all competitions, after joining the club from Sunderland in 2021.
He has reunited with his former manager in Parkinson, as he hopes to take the club to the Championship, and play in the second tier for the first time in his career.
This summer has been crucial for the Red Dragons, with League One a massive step-up compared to League Two, and with the likes of Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic in the division, there will be great competition.
Despite plenty of additions, Wrexham may find it hard to sneak into the top six, according to McAnuff: "I think with Okonkwo and making that a permanent signing, he was fantastic last season, that was a real shrewd bit of business.
"You know with Wrexham, they're not just here to make up the numbers. They want to come and compete, and not just compete, but go beyond some of the teams that have been at that level for a while.
