Bayern were ahead after 15 minutes when Robert Lewandowski converted from the penalty spot, before adding his second shortly after from a well-worked set piece.

Leroy Sané made it three after ghosting in unmarked at the back post, with Union giving themselves hope when Niko Gießelmann’s fierce strike beat Manuel Neuer.

Kingsley Coman added a fourth with another rasping effort, before the hosts managed to score another when Julian Ryerson finished a smart cutback from close range.

Thomas Müller secured all three points late on with another impressive finish.

Despite some difficult defensive moments, Dortmund found themselves ahead at half time when Thorgan Hazard headed in Jude Bellingham’s pinpoint cross.
